Cosmetic
dentistry is the art and science of improving the appearance
of the teeth and the smile utilizing a variety of elective
procedures (see cosmetic techniques). These procedures can
be simple or complex depending on the individual's needs
and wants.
Cosmetic
dentistry is usually elective, as is elective plastic surgery.
It is intended to make us look and feel better about ourselves.
Although it is not directly needed for dental health and
function, it is often incorporated within treatment procedures
that are needed for optimal dental health and function.
